Case studies on price fluctuation of Trichiurus haumela in Zhoushan and Shanghai market

Abstract:

Taking Zhoushan and Shanghai market as example, the paper analyses the price fluctuation, income and price elasticity of Trichiurus haumela.The studies results are: (1) There are two changes cycle of price during one year in Zhoushan market; (2) The price increased greatly in 2007; (3) During 2004 and 2007, the price of different size increased and the price of larger size fish grew more quickly; (4) The income elasticity of consumer in Shanghai is between 0 and 1.To improve economic effects of hailtail industrial, the authors think the selective fishing gear should be encouraged to protect small size fish.Also we should prohibit small fish entering market, encourage using angling gear to catch larger fish and assess the fishery resources value added tax upon fisherman using destructive fishing gear.The government should also advance the TAC, IQ and ITQ system to balance the supply of the fish.
